Lionel Messi suggests Lewandowski should have won 2020 Ballon d’Or
Lionel Messi would, of course, win his 7th Ballon d’Or last week.
Following Messi’s win, the Argentine suggested that Robert Lewandowski should have been awarded a Ballon d’Or for 2020.
The award was not handed out that year owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lewandowski clarifies comments
After these comments, Robert Lewandowski recently responded, with some comments that, on the surface, seemed to suggest that the striker was not too happy with Messi.
Now though, the Bayern Munich star has once again spoken out in a bid to clarify his previous words on Messi.
And, speaking to the Daily Mail, claimed that his comments have been misinterpreted and that he was actually really happy with what Messi had to say:
“My statement, which I made in an interview with a Polish TV / Via Play broadcaster, is currently being misinterpreted. I never say that Lionel Messi’s words were not sincere.
“On the contrary: Lionel Messi’s speech at the event in Paris, in which he expressed that, in his opinion, I deserved the Ballon d’Or 2020, really touched me and made me happy.
“With my statement, I just wanted to express that I would of course be very happy if Messi’s words were heard.
“I respect and appreciate Lionel Messi beyond measure and once again congratulate him on winning the Ballon d’Or 2021.”
