Riyad Mahrez after Man City
There was an excellent discussion on BT Sport on Saturday night about Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez.
In the final twenty-four hours of the January transfer window, Man City tried to swoop in for the Algerian winger.
Man City’s move for Mahrez seemed to be prompted by an injury to Leroy Sane.
The German winger could now be out for the next seven weeks for the Sky Blues.
Man City were willing to offer 60 million pounds for Mahrez, but Leicester refused to sell their star at that price.
It’s believed that Leicester were looking for closer to 90 million pounds for Mahrez.
Can Mahrez return for Leicester?
On Saturday in the Premier League, Leicester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Swansea.
Jamie Vardy fired the Foxes into the lead, but Federico Fernandez levelled for Swansea early in the second half.
Mahrez was missing from the Leicester XI for the Swansea game following his failed move to Man City.
So what’s next for Mahrez and Leicester? How do they repair their relationship?
For Robbie Savage, he feels Mahrez has been hard done-by by his employers.
Savage argued that Mahrez has given his all for Leicester, stayed with the club after winning the league, but he’s missed out on a ‘golden ticket’ to play for Pep Guardiola at Man City.
Martin Keown was far less sympathetic to the player. The former Arsenal defender called for Mahrez to return to Leicester with the right attitude, telling the winger he’ll get a move in the future.
