Where will Riyad Mahrez go?
Leicester kick off their new Premier League campaign on August 11 when they take on Arsenal on Friday night.
Could Riyad Mahrez be in an Arsenal shirt for that match?
Rumours linking the Algerian with the Gunners have been swirling for weeks; in truth the transfer story was alive last summer too, but Mahrez opted to remain at the King Power Stadium to play Champions League football.
Mahrez ‘prefers’ Arsenal
On Saturday, Goal.com have posted an update in the Mahrez saga.
The battle for the 26-year-old is painted out to be between two sides: Roma and the Gunners.
While the player would opt to move to the Emirates Stadium, it’s Roma who are showing all the initiative in trying to get a deal done. Goal.com report:
Riyad Mahrez’s entourage has agreed to a transfer to Roma, Goal can confirm, though the player will wait to see if Arsenal return with an offer before committing to a Serie A switch.
Mahrez is impressed by the Giallorossi’s determination to bring him to Stadio Olimpico, but would prefer to turn out for the Gunners should the opportunity arise.
Bid tabled & rejected
On Saturday night, reports from both Sky Sports has announced that Leicester have rejected a bid from Roma for Mahrez.
The Serie A side posted a £20 million bid for the Algerian star, but that’s below the Foxes’ asking price.
Leicester are thought to be looking for £50 million for the winger.
