Riyad Mahrez

Claude Puel welcomes ‘Riyad Mahrez to Chelsea & Liverpool’ links

Leicester 2 – Watford 0

It was a crappy weekend for Watford, and they’ve reacted on Sunday by sacking Marco Silva.

Once the surprise team of the Premier League season, could Watford end up being relegated this term?

That doomsday scenario still feels a little remote considering Watford are 10th in the division.

Yet the Hornets are just five points above the bottom three, while their league form is horrific. They have one win in 11 EPL matches including eight defeats.

On Saturday Watford lost 2-0 at Leicester in another limp performance.

Jamie Vardy fired the Foxes in the lead with a first half penalty. Riyad Mahrez sealed the victory with a late second.

Leicester are seventh in the Premier League and facing a brilliant run of fixtures in the next few weels. Moreover, the Foxes are eight points behind Arsenal. Could they catch them?

‘Riyad Mahrez to Chelsea or Liverpool?’ Claude Puel welcomes rumours

One player who now looks certain to stay at Leicester this January is Algerian winger Mahrez.

Paper reports have claimed that Mahrez is coveted by the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal in recent seasons. Yet the Foxes have managed to hold onto their most creative asset.

After the Watford game, Puel was again quizzed about Mahrez’s future.

The French boss, clearly confident of keeping his star, answered those questions as follows:

It is a good thing people always ask me about Riyad because it shows he is playing well.

I get asked about his future and it is a good thing because we have a good feeling.

He gave an assist and scored a goal, and he is showing good consistency with and without the ball. He is a good player.

Because he is an experienced player with good maturity and he can give a good example with his play also.

Great victory, great goals and clean sheet ✅
