Rio Ferdinand outlines how Arsenal can get more out of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal begin mission to save face

Arsenal’s last two results, 1-0 wins over Norwich and Burnley respectively, have served to mitigate some of the panic that was filtering through social media as they sat bottom of the Premier League table across the international break, having failed to score a goal.

In the time since, they have amassed six points, but know that should they fail to get a positive result against Spurs on Sunday in the first north London derby at the weekend, they would find themselves 6 points behind the Lilywhites, and more than likely 10 points behind the frontrunners of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Of course, it remains very early in what will be a long season, but points on the board now would take a great deal of pressure away from those on the red side of North London.

Rio Ferdinand identifies Aubameyang problem

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one of those who has suffered as a result of Arsenal’s poor form, netting just one goal so far in 4 Premier League appearances. The Gabonese striker is coming off the back of a poor season in the top flight last season, where he netted just 10 goals, and will be hoping he can get back to his predatory best sooner rather than later.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that the Gunners are not helping their talisman, however, and need to improve in their transitional play in order to get the best out of Aubameyang.

Speaking to vibe with five, the Englishman revealed his concerns, saying:

“I don’t know if the club are playing to his strengths, they need to get the ball forward quicker,”

“If they get the ball forward quick and set him off, set him free running through teams… in full flow he is as good as most, he is just an unbelievable finisher.

“When he’s smiling he is on form and he makes Arsenal a considerably better team. They have no else who finishes chances like him.”

Ferdinand is undoubtedly referring to the FA Cup run of 2020, where the Gunners used Aubameyang from the left-hand side on the counter-attack, and where his goals won them the Semi-final and the final of the competition.

Can they replicate that in the Premier League?
