Some interesting selections from Gareth Southgate
Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the games against Czech Republic and Montenegro at the end of the month has been announced.
It’s been a little while since an international break and there has been plenty of English performances since then.
It was actually back in November when England last played and a lot has changed since then.
First of all, Declan Rice declared himself available for England selection after ending his association with the Republic of Ireland.
That was huge news and there was some expectation he would get a call-up.
There has also been some time for English players to impress, with several of the nations most talented youngsters impressing in their respective leagues.
However, not all have them have made it into the most recent squad.

Maddison among notable omissions
James Maddison, who has impressed with Leicester this season, did not make the squad.
That brought a negative reaction, with Maddison having created the most chances out of any player in the top five European leagues.
Most chances created in Europe’s top five leagues so far this season:

Maddison isn’t the only player that people were surprised missed out.
That is because Crystal Palace’s young full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka didn’t make the squad.
Wan-Bissaka has been a brick wall for Palace this season but has Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker to compete with.
James Ward-Prowse and Harry Winks are another two players who many were disappointed to see not in the squad.
Though, there is no doubt that Rice’s inclusion is a big plus for England and their fans.
His performances for West Ham have certainly warranted a call-up and Rice will no doubt give Southgate a big decision to make in the middle of the park.

Social media reaction
With so many talking points, there was always going to be some social media reaction.
How are Loftus-Cheek, Trippier and Ali in the squad but no Winks, Maddison or Wan Bissaka.
Loftus-Cheek and Ali have hardly played and Trippier has been average at best.
England managers ALWAYS make a rod for their own back by saying players get picked based on performance.

Dier, Trippier, Barkley over Ward Prowse, Wan Bissaka and Maddison is criminal

No winks or Wan Bissaka in that England squad is disgusting

James Maddison, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Conor Coady.
Ross Barkley, Kieran Trippier, Michael Keane.
One group got picked for England. One didn’t. You’ll never guess who….
