Since Jose Mourinho announced the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be imminent, there have been many questions about where he will fit into the team, and if Romelu Lukaku would suffer by his inclusion – or even be dropped.
But one man at least thinks the duo can play together – and explained why.
“It’s going to be tough [for Mourinho to choose between Ibrahimovic and Lukaku],” Jose Fonte told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Probably two of the best strikers out there.
“Strong, powerful. Lukaku is very quick, as well. Good finishers.
“You don’t want to be playing against them too, that’s for sure, too often. So it’s a great problem for Jose to have.
“I think they can play together because Zlatan likes to drop in between the lines, into the positions where he can pick up the ball and set up his team-mates.
“So it looks like it’s gonna be a difficult proposition when you face Man United and you have to face Zlatan and Lukaku up front, plus the [Henrikh] Mkhitaryans and the [Marcus] Rashfords and all the great players that they have like [Juan] Mata, without evening talking about Paul Pogba.
“Obviously with him [Pogba] in the team, like Jose Mourinho said before, it’s a different game. So yeah, good news for Mourinho.”
The news came as a massive boost to United and Mourinho – and the fact they will also be able to call upon Paul Pogba and Marcos Rojo is also a major factor for Mourinho.
The club have struggled badly without Pogba in the side, and to see him come back should bring the domination in midfield – not to mention more chances for Lukaku and space for the other creative players, something that United have struggled with since the injury to the Frenchman.
