An insight into the plans of Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez when it comes to Ousmane Dembele’s place in his squad has been provided on Friday.
The subject of wide-man Dembele’s future has, of course, taken its place front and centre in the chatter surrounding developments at the Camp Nou of late.
This comes as the Frenchman’s contract continues to wind down…
Amid a frustrating spell in the Catalan capital, which has seen Dembele fail to ever truly establish himself as a key performer owing to a dismal spell of luck on the injury front, the one-time Borussia Dortmund standout has refused to put pen-to-paper on fresh terms.
This means that, with his current deal due to expire in the summer of 2022, Dembele will be free to open negotiations with foreign clubs over the prospect of a free transfer as early as next month.
Dembele’s stance, in turn, had culminated in suggestions that the 24-year-old could even be punished by the powers that be at the Camp Nou, courtesy of a permanent banishment to the stands.
Xavi’s plans revealed
If the latest word stemming from the Spanish media on Friday is anything to go by, however, then such a development appears altogether unlikely.
This comes with Diario Sport having provided an insight into Xavi’s immediate plans for Dembele.
It is assured that, once he recovers full fitness, ‘everyone knows’ that the explosive winger will be afforded first-choice status on the right of Barcelona’s attack.
As a result, Dembele is expected to feature in at least some capacity in the Blaugrana’s meeting with Real Betis this weekend, before being reintroduced to the starting XI by Xavi for the club’s crucial Champions League showdown with Bayern Munich next Wednesday.
