Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has spoken about the injury Alvaro Morata has been suffering with, and noted that he has been carrying a far greater knock than anyone actually thought.
The player has struggled for goals this season and Conte noted that his fitness has been miles off what he wanted it to be – and the medical department have been key.
He also added that Morata is now fully fit – meaning Chelsea should finally have their summer signing ready to go.
“He needed to rest, and then to have hard sessions of work to find the best physical condition to prepare himself for the final weeks of the season,” Conte said.
“He had this problem in his back. It was a serious problem because I didn’t know how long his recovery it would take: one day, one month, the whole season.
“He solved the problem; our medical department was very good to get him in the best physical condition to solve this problem.
“At the start of this period, he continued to feel a bit of pain in his back, but now he is ready. He is totally fit.”
Chelsea have struggled for goals at times this season, and it’s been a far cry from when the likes of Diego Costa were leading the line, and it’s also been a huge reason their title defence has fallen apart.
It’s clear they should never have let Costa leave without having a top class replacement – something Morata clearly is not, and the fact that they also allowed Michy Batshuayi to go out on loan also makes little sense given how well the player is doing – and it seems that whatever issue Conte had with the player has impacted Chelsea’s results now as well.
