A fresh insight into the ongoing efforts of Spanish giants Barcelona to cut costs ahead of the new campaign has been provided on Thursday.
The financial woes being endured by the Blaugrana at present have of course been covered ad nauseam in the media this summer.
This comes with the Catalan outfit having been forced to activate a series of monetary ‘levers’, to reinforce Xavi Hernandez’s ranks.
Evidently, though, work remains to be done to balance the books at the Camp Nou.
In turn, the powers that be at Barcelona have once more turned to the club’s stars, in a fresh cry for help.
As per Spanish outlet ARA, negotiations have been kicked into gear with no fewer than five players, regarding potential cuts to their current wage packets.
The stars in question, it is understood, come in the form of Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Jordi Alba.
Pique, for one, is reported to be very much open to lending a helping hand to his long-time employers, with the veteran stopper owed a whopping €52 million between wages and deferred payments over the course of the coming 12 months.
