Manchester City will win the derby this weekend according to Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas, who thinks that the tactics employed by United boss Jose Mourinho will make it almost impossible for his side to win, and that they won’t offer much in the way of an attacking threat – and that, along with the wounded pride Manchester City are currently carrying will mean they will beat Mourinho’s men.
“People will expect City to be angry and frustrated and, while they’ll want to rebuild momentum for the second leg [vs Liverpool in the Champions League], they don’t need to win the title this weekend so Pep will keep them patient,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“I think Jose will park the bus, irritate, frustrate and show little interest in attacking.
“It will be arduous at times with great tension, but I see City getting the job done, perhaps late on.”
United are only playing for pride at this point in the league, and are focusing on the FA Cup, which is the only trophy they have a chance of winning, but for Manchester City a big win would mean three things.
They would obviously get bragging rights and prove yet again they’re miles better than United, and they’d secure the Premier League title against their rivals, and finally, it would build some positive momentum for the game against Liverpool, where City are of course facing an uphill mountain to qualify after going three goals down in the first leg and failing to get an away goal to take back to the Etihad.
