Chelsea plan to keep Thibaut Courtois at the club by making him the best paid goalkeeper in the world. That’s according to Standard Sport, who think that the Blues want to keep the Belgian at the club and will bow to his wage demands to do so.
Courtois is currently earning around £100,000 per week, and had asked to double that, and now Chelsea want to offer him enough to make him the best paid stopper around.
The club had been confident over talks with the player, but after hearing how much he wanted to go and be with his young children in Spain and seeing the interest from Real Madrid heighten after their chase for David De Gea failed, they started to become concerned, and are now determined to tie him down to a new five year deal that would of course secure his long term future at the club.
Another player Chelsea are concerned about is Eden Hazard, with the creative star attracting not only Real Madrid, but also PSG, and the worry that he could ask to leave the club or welcome those advances has become more prominent in recent months.
If Chelsea fail to meet Hazard’s expectations in terms of what he wants from the club personally and also as a team in terms of trophies and titles – not to mention challenging for the Champions League, he may look elsewhere.
In terms of the January transfer window, manager Antonio Conte has made it clear he wants to see more players come into his side and of course strengthen it as they push on in the domestic cup competitions, having drawn Arsenal in the semi finals of the EFL Cup and look towards playing Barcelona in the Champions League.
