Revealed: Why Luis Suarez snubbed FIFA’s awards

Luis Suarez v FIFA

The fallout from the absence of Barcelona’s stars from FIFA’s The Best award gala continues to make headlines.

Argentinian paper La Nacion have delved into the topic this week to reveal the “real reason” why Luis Suarez failed to show up at the event.

According to their insight, Suarez has his own beef which stopped him going to the event, as the striker is miffed with football’s world governing body.

A broken relationship

The Barca players claimed their absence from the event was due to their upcoming match against Athletic Bilbao.

However, according to La Nacion, Suarez made it clear he wouldn’t be attending a week before the event as he’s still holding a grudge against FIFA.

That stems back from the 2014 World Cup, where Suarez famously bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.

As part of FIFA’s punishment, Suarez was banned for an extended period which meant he had to wait three months before he could make his debut for the Catalans.

La Nacion report Suarez continues to think he was unfairly dealt with by FIFA, while the paper add “FIFA also seems to have a negative attitude towards the Uruguayan.”

Flashing teeth

La Nacion also remind their readers how Suarez was left out of the FIFA FIFPro World 11 for 2016.

Moreover, as FIFA went through the list of nominees for the FIFPro XI, they used a ridiculous picture of Suarez appeared on the big screen.

The picture was five years old, and it showed Suarez flashing his pearly whites in a very toothy picture.
