Jose Mourinho has mater-minded the downfall of Antonio Conte according to Paul Ince, who thinks that the Chelsea manager has been destroyed by the former Blues boss – who knew exactly what he was doing.
In the ten games since the war of words began with Mourinho, Conte has appeared to lose the plot and his Chelsea side have only won two out of their ten games and their position in the top four looks perilous.
They’ve also been dumped out of the Carabao Cup, and the odds on Conte being sacked have been slashed dramatically.
Ince was speaking to Paddy Power and said: “Since that war of words, Conte has looked dejected and just exudes negativity.
“He’s not seemed happy since that little spat and things have been going wrong for Chelsea ever since.
“It’s obvious that Mourinho has rattled Conte, exactly as he set out to do.
“It’s naive to think the Chelsea players aren’t impacted by all the speculation and uncertainty around Conte.
“You can see that in their latest performances. They’re distracted, and are probably wondering whether Conte is going to be there for much longer.”
Various names have been mentioned, and it seems that Luis Enrique is the favourite at the minute, with even former players John Terry and Frank Lampard mentioned as candidates.
Mourinho meanwhile has signed a new deal with United and is talking about the future of the club – and how he wants to make sure the Red Devils are able to challenge for every trophy by 2020 – and has pushed the board to offer the amount of money that it will take – something Conte feels he was denied with Chelsea.
