Neymar suffers horror injury

PSG came from 1-0 down to win 3-1 at the weekend against Saint Etienne, Lionel Messi’s trio of assists was overshadowed by an altogether more unsavoury incident.

A fellow member of the famed forward line, Neymar, was stretchered off late in the second half after a horror challenge saw his foot bent in an altogether unnatural direction.

Said injury saw the Brazilian stretchered off the pitch in serious pain, with fears that his injury could rule him out for a seriously long period of time.

However, such fears have since been tempered somewhat, with the Ligue 1 outfit issuing an injury update on the Brazilian star.

And the club suggested that he would be sidelined for less than initially expected, with Neymar expected back in between six and eight weeks. The club revealed:

“Tests carried out last night confirm that Neymar Jr suffers from a sprained left ankle with ligament damage. An unavailability period of 6 to 8 weeks is to be expected.”

This means that fans will not see Neymar in a PSG shirt again this calender year, but that the Brazilian should be available for the Champions League knockout stages, scheduled for the middle of February.

With his side currently 12 points clear of second place in France, he will not be missed, but could yet prove crucial as Mauricio Pochettino looks to bring a European Cup down the Champs Elysee.
