Renato Sanches

Revealed: Bayern Munich’s financial incentive for not playing Renato Sanches

Champs Bayern Munich

Like everyone expected, Bayern Munich have been crowned the 2016-17 Bundesliga champs.

The Bavarians wrapped up the league title last weekend following a 6-0 win over Wolfsburg.

Bayern have now won the German title for five straight seasons in a row, while Carlo Ancelotti has become the first manager to win the league championship in Italy, Germany, England, Spain and France.

Update on Renato Sanches

Last summer, Bayern Munich beat Man United in the transfer market to sign Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches from Benfica.

Now 19, Sanches signed a five-year contract at the Allianz Arena after he joined Bayern for €35 million.

Sanches has found his first season rather tough. He’s made 24 appearances in all competitions: 16 in the league, 6 in the Champions league and twice in the cup for a total of 813 minutes game time this season.

So will Sanches play again this season?

Probably, although Bayern have good reason to chose otherwise. It’s been confirmed that the next time Sanches plays, his 25th Bayern appearance will trigger a 5 million euro payment to Benfica.

At 40 million euros, Sanches will become Bayern’s most expensive ever signing along with Javi Martinez (who joined from Bilbao in 2012).

Bild further report that Sanches could end up costing Bayern 80 million euros if the teenager meets all his contractual clauses.
