Reece James returns to Chelsea ahead of England’s upcoming Nations League ties
England down Ireland
England began their latest round of international fixtures with a friendly against close rivals, the Republic of Ireland.
The Three Lions, unsurprisingly, headed into the clash as heavy favourites, with Ireland’s recent form far from impressive.
And when all was said and done at Wembley, proceedings played out true to form.
The visitors started the tie fairly brightly, but a Harry Maguire header 18 minutes in soon put a damper on Ireland’s hopes of an upset.
Jadon Sancho then made it two 31 minutes in, before a 56th-minute Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty made sure of a comfortable England win.

Reece James returns to Chelsea
England will now turn their attentions to more serious matters, with a Nations League clash with Belgium just over 24 hours away. You can check out 101’s betting tips for the Belgium vs England game here.
Ahead of Sunday’s showdown, though, England have seen yet another star forced to depart the country’s camp.
Reece James played the full 90 minutes on Thursday, but the Three Lions have since confirmed that the full-back is returning to Chelsea ahead of the Belgium game.
Blues fans, though, probably shouldn’t be too concerned about James’ withdrawal, as England didn’t mention an injury in their update.
With the stopper suspended for the country’s clashes with both Belgium and Iceland following his red card versus Denmark during the last international break, it makes sense for him to return to London now.
