Recently-departed Barcelona chief hints at Neymar return

Emili Rousaud, former vice-president of Barcelona, has today suggested that a reunion between the Blaugrana and Neymar this summer cannot be ruled out.

Barca’s Neymar chase

Barcelona’s attempts to coax Brazilian attacker Neymar back to the club proved one of the talking points of last summer’s transfer window.

Two years on from his La Liga departure, Neymar was hotly-tipped to make a return to the Camp Nou.

Despite having already added Antoine Griezmann to their attacking ranks, the Spanish champions were long said to have been eyeing a further splash before the close of the European transfer market.

PSG, however, proved an altogether-tough nut to crack for the Blaugrana hierarchy.

Though reports had been rampant that Neymar himself had his heart set on linking back up with his former club, and PSG having publicly scolded their star man for his behaviour, the capital outfit’s board stood firm in demanding a premium fee for a player whom they splashed out a world-record €222 million on in 2017.

This eventually resulted in widespread confirmation late in August that Barca had come to the decision to basically call a definitive end to their chase of the Brazilian:

‘Not an impossibility’

Speculation over the months since, though, has seen questions raised regarding whether those in charge at the Camp Nou could yet rekindle their pursuit of Neymar.

The La Liga champions have often struggled for creativity over the course of the current campaign, with the burden on the shoulders of Lionel Messi to conjure up moments of magic more prevalent than ever.

Neymar’s individual brilliance, meanwhile, would no doubt go a long way towards easing the pressure on Barca’s talisman.

And, as outlined above, one individual who feels as though a reunion between the two South American attackers in Catalunya this summer cannot be ruled out is Emili Rousaud.

Now ex-Barca vice-president Rousaud’s name has been in the headlines of late, after the Spaniard, on the back of his departure, aimed a number of serious accusations at his former employers.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN Deportes earlier today, though, Rousaud was drawn on potential transfer dealings at the Camp Nou this summer.

And, when questioned specifically on the possibility of Neymar linking back up with the Blaugrana, the Barcelona-born businessman hinted that a deal could be in the offing:

‘I think it’s possible that Neymar could return in the summer. It does not seem to me an impossibility at all.’

Rousaud continued:

‘I have a feeling that the pandemic will lead to some deflation in player prices, which is good for buyers but bad for sellers. We will have to see how all these factors are rebalanced.’
