Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez a target for Everton – Mirror

Rodriguez’s Real Madrid stint

James Rodriguez made the switch to Real Madrid in July of 2014.

The Spanish giants are believed to have paid around £67m for Rodriguez’s services.

Rodriguez has featured 120 times across all competitions for Los Blancos, scoring 37 and assisting 41 in said games.

The Colombian has also picked up a number of trophies during his spell in Spain, including the La Liga title and Champions League.

However, Rodriguez never really looked overly settled in Madrid, and spent the past two seasons out on loan with German powerhouse Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old had a fairly fruitful loan spell with Bayern, making 67 appearances and bagging himself two Bundesliga titles.

The decorated midfielder has since returned to parent club Real Madrid for the 2019/20 campaign.

However, Rodriguez hasn’t been afforded too many minutes so far this term, completing 90 minutes for Real Madrid just twice.

Rodriguez is currently contracted to Real until 2021.

Rodriguez to Everton?

Now, though, with the January transfer window open, Rodriguez is being linked with a move away from the Bernabeu.

The Mirror reported that Rodriguez has become a transfer target of Everton, with Carlo Ancelotti backing a loan bid for the midfielder.

Ancelotti has worked with Rodriguez at Real Madrid, and briefly at Bayern Munich.

Rodriguez, like Ancelotti, is top quality, and would likely improve the Toffees.

Ancelotti would enjoy a fairly positive start to life in the Everton dugout, picking up wins over Burnley and Newcastle.

However, Everton have lost their last two ties, failing to beat Manchester City in the league, or bitter rivals Liverpool in the FA Cup.
