Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal experiences injury setback as David Alaba talk is shot down
Carvajal set back
The injury problems for Dani Carvajal appear to be continuing. The Spanish right-back has struggled for fitness this season and has missed a significant portion of the defence of the La Liga title for Los Blancos.
It had looked as if his return would be imminent with the Spaniard taking part in training, however, reports now suggest that he has suffered a setback and will be unavailable for Real Madrid’s next fixture against Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey and most likely Alaves in the league at the weekend.

The options for Zinedine Zidane at right-back are limited. The French coach has reportedly lost faith in previously highly thought of full-back Álvaro Odriozola. In Carvajal’s stead, Lucas Vazquez has been playing in an unorthodox right-back position but has coped well with the demands of the role and will likely continue. Nacho Fernandez also has experience of playing at full-back.
Zidane coy on Alaba
With the January transfer window open there are opportunities for Real Madrid to strengthen their side in the market. However, the winter window is typically not one used by Los Blancos to strengthen their side who tend to focus on more marquee summer signings which will bed in during the pre-season ahead of a new campaign.
However, there have been serious linked with Bayern Munich defender David Alaba. BILD’s head of football Christian Falk suggested Real were favourites to sign the Austrian despite interest from Liverpool.

However, Zinedine Zidane has been very coy himself about the deal and has spoken respectfully of a player who is not his own.
“He (Alaba) is a player who is not mine and as a coach I am here to think about tomorrow’s game. I will not go into these things,” he said.
Alaba is out of contract with Bayern Munich in the summer. The Bavarian club were hoping to tie the player down to a new deal but that has not been possible with the club even retracting their most recent offer.
