Man City’s Raheem Sterling & Real Madrid
In The Athletic on Monday, reporter Sam Lee has linked Manchester City star Raheem Sterling to Real Madrid.
In an update for fans of the Sky Blues, it’s claimed that both sides are interested in a possible union. Sam Lee writes:
Real Madrid are going to be having a serious look. And they are having a look at Sterling.
Sterling likes the idea of playing for Madrid one day, which, when you think about it, is no surprise, and will not worry City too much just yet.
What is Raheem Sterling’s contract situation?
Raheem Sterling is under contract at Man City until 2023.
Sterling joined the Sky Blues from Liverpool back in 2015.
His last contract extension was in November 2018.
When could Real Madrid try to sign Sterling?
According to Sam Lee, imminently:
(Sterling) ideally would not think about a transfer for another two or three years, and a lot can change in that time – more of which later.
Madrid, however, may try to force the issue after a dismal start to the season and that will leave Sterling with a big decision to make.
Real Madrid have already been in touch with Sterling’s reps and City know it. Last week City stressed that he will get another new contract by the end of this season.
The big question beyond that is, ‘Are Madrid still the big pull they used to be?’ https://t.co/eA5tGOMr1f

How have Man City reacted to Real Madrid’s interest in Sterling?
First of all, The Athletic make it clear that Man City are aware of Real Madrid’s hopes of signing Sterling:
City director of football, Txiki Begiristain, is aware of Real’s interest in one of his star players.
However, Sam Lee reports that the Sky Blues are looking to agree a new deal with Sterling before the end of this season.
