One Real Madrid player originally claimed that Barcelona star Lionel Messi was better than Cristiano Ronaldo but has now looked to clarify his comments.
That player comes in the form of Bernabeu youngster Federico Valverde who was caught out for claiming that he would choose Messi over Ronaldo, despite being a Madrid player.
Though, it quickly got out of hand and the player has now clarified his comments by explaining that it was actually a joke.
The comment came while the player was visiting and school and was asked who the best player in the world was.
“[Ronaldo and Messi] are the two best players in the world, but I opt for Messi,” Valverde supposedly told young fans.
Valverde then posted a video to social media to clarify that the comments were a joke and not his real feelings.
“I wanted to clarify a misunderstanding that occurred today on campus, with the children in an interview,” he said.
“It was a joke about Messi and Ronaldo because he knows that I am from Madrid and I always bet or fight for Cristiano because he is the best player in the world, it shows every day, match by match.
“I wanted to clarify that and if I had felt a fanaticism for Messi I would never have signed for Real Madrid.
“I wanted to clarify that and make it clear that they are the two best players in the world, but I will always be on the side of Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Safe to say, he isn’t in the good books of Real Madrid fans for now.
