Gerard Pique booed again
Spain took on Italy at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Saturday night.
The match was a crucial 2018 World Cup qualifier between two of the favourites for next year’s competition in Russia.
Isco was the star of the show for Spain in the first half.
The Real Madrid star broke the deadlock with a brilliant free-kick which beat Italian legend Gigi Buffon.
Isco doubled Spain’s lead with a low shot from outside the box which beat Buffon again.
But away from the action on the pitch, Real Madrid’s fans booed Spanish defender Gerard Pique during the game.
Spain hates Pique?
How many times does Gerard Pique have to be booed by Spanish fans?
Pique is often heckled on international duty. For example, the Barcelona centre-half was booed back in June during a 2-2 draw with Colombia in Murcia.
This is now a regular occurrence for Pique and is put down to the fact that he is very much the symbol of Barcelona.
Fans of the Catalan side do not usually support Spain. The national team has not played in the Camp Nou for a couple of decades now and Pique takes the brunt of this.
The issue of Pique being booed is now commonplace, despite all the calls within Spain for fans to behave differently to the defender.
It now looks likely that this controversy will follow Spain into the World Cup and if it continues, don’t be surprised if Pique retires after Russia 2018.
Piqué gets a touch… and is duly whistled. His name got a cheer when it was read out, but some just can't help themselves…
