Real Madrid dealt Eden Hazard injury blow ahead of Man City

Real Madrid lose to Levante

Real Madrid were in La Liga action on Saturday evening vs Levante.

After Barcelona dominated Eibar earlier in the day, Madrid had been knocked off top spot by the time they kicked off against Levante.

But a victory on Saturday would have seen Real return to the summit of the Spanish top-flight.

And, given the fact Levante had lost four of their last five league ties before facing Real Madrid, a victory for Zinedine Zidane’s side did seem the more likely outcome.

That did not prove to be the case, though, with a wasteful Real Madrid eventually losing the tie 1-0.

Hazard dealt another injury blow

As well as being knocked off top spot in La Liga, Madrid were dealt another mammoth blow on Saturday.

Since his big move to Spain over the summer, Eden Hazard has had a rather torrid time with injuries.

As a result, the Belgian has made just 10 La Liga appearances this term, one of which came on Saturday.

But Hazard’s outing was cut short vs Levante, with the winger forced off in the 67th minute. Hazard was then pictured on the bench with an icepack on his right ankle.

With a Champions League tie with Man City looming, Real Madrid will likely have been hoping that Hazard’s issue was only minor.

But, on Sunday, Los Blancos would provide this rather negative update on the former Chelsea man:

Following the tests carried out today on our player, Eden Hazard, by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with a fracture to his right distal fibula. His recovery will continue to be assessed.

Hazard is now expected to miss the Man City tie next week.
