Ralf Rangnick, sporting director of Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, has today once again ruled out a possible departure for Liverpool target Naby Keita.
Keita, a 22-year-old Guinean international, was in sensational form for Leipzig last season, proving one of the finest midfielders in the German top flight as his side secured a shock second-place finish in the Bundesliga table.
In 32 appearances in all competitions, the former RB Salzburg standout notched 8 goals and 7 assists, with his all-action performances alerting some of European football’s biggest clubs.
Above all others in the chase for Keita this summer have been Liverpool, with the Merseysiders reportedly desperate to add a top-class midfielder to their ranks ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League.
Despite the interest of Jurgen Klopp’s side having become an extremely public affair over recent weeks, however, the Reds have made no progress in their bid to bring Keita to the Premier League before the close of the transfer market.
And, speaking in an interview following his club’s training session this afternoon, Leipzig director of sport Ralf Rangnick confirmed that neither Keita or fellow in-demand midfielder Emil Forsberg will be departing the club this summer, no matter how many offers arrive.
According to Sky Sports, Rangnick explained:
‘For us, it is important that these two players play with us next season, and I can assure that, which is the only thing I know for sure.’
‘Even if there are still five offers, nothing will change our position.’
