Rangers vs Celtic prediction: Rangers 1-2 Celtic

The fourth and final Old Firm of the season will take place in Glasgow’s West End at Ibrox.

The previous three meetings of these two great rivals have been won by the home team by just a solitary goal.

Will the pattern continue or can Celtic assert their dominance?

Be ready for the latest instalment of the world’s greatest derby.

Rangers vs Celtic: Who will win?

Rangers won the fixture at Ibrox in December and are 9/5 to repeat that.

Celtic have won both meetings at Paradise and are the favourites at 7/5 to win this one too.

A draw is 23/10.

Goals have been at a premium this season, just 5 in 3 games.

However, over 2.5 goals is 10/11.

Both teams to score is 4/6.

Celtic to win and both teams to score is 7/2.

Alfredo Morelos

Jermain Defoe’s recent good form should see him start an Old Firm for the first time. He is 4/1 to score first and 8/5 to score anytime.

Alfredo Morelos is back from the ban he picked up in the last Old Firm. He’s never scored against Celtic in 7 previous appearances but is also 4/1 to score first and 7/4 to break that duck.

Odsonne Édouard scored a late winner at Ibrox last season and has 21 goals to his name this season. The man known as French Eddy is also 4/1 to score first and 7/4 to score anytime.

James Forrest, who scored the winner in this fixture in March, was named PFA Scotland player of the year last weekend. He is 15/2 to score first and 14/5 to score anytime.

Both Odsonne Edouard and Jermain Defoe to score is 13/2.

Both Timo Weah and Odsonne Édouard to score is 9/1.

Both Odsonne Édouard and James Forrest to score is 11/1.

Both James Tavernier and Jermain Defoe to score is 12/1.

Both Ryan Kent and Jermain Defoe to score is 14/1.

Both Ryan Kent and Callum McGregor to score is 75/1.

Rangers vs Celtic: Match preview

Rangers have found some form.

Last weekend, they beat Hibernian 1-0 at Ibrox to make it 5 wins in a row for the first time this season in the league.

Steven Gerrard’s men are mathematically guaranteed second place at qualification for the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round.

However, there is some debate as to how successful Gerrard’s first season has been.

His great success was negotiating four qualifying rounds and taking Rangers into the UEFA Europa League group stages.

However, they were knocked out both Cups by Aberdeen, in the semi-final of the League Cup and in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup.

In the Premiership, they’re currently 9 points behind Celtic with just 2 to play.

A second Old Firm victory of the season may silence some of his critics and would give the Gers real belief going into next season.

Can they pull it off?

Champions again as you know

Last weekend there was more celebrations for Celtic.

Goals from Mikael Lustig, Jozo Šimunović and Odsonne Édouard saw them win 3-0 at Pittodrie and secured the title.

That’s now 50 league titles for Celtic and 8 in a row.

All Celts fans are desperate for 10 in a row.

Why is 10 in a row so important?

Currently Rangers (1989-1997) and Celtic (1965-1974) are the joint holders of the record for most consecutive Scottish league titles.

Celtic would desperately love to have that record outright.

In the more immediate future, they can secure a treble treble.

In two weeks time, the champions take on Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Cup Final knowing a win in that game would make it 9 domestic trophies out of 9.

First though, their focus is on beating their greatest rivals.

Will Glasgow remain Green and White?

There may be nothing to play for in terms of league position but make no mistake, this is a massive game.

Steven Gerrard has some big decisions to make.

Goalkeeper Allan McGregor is suspended after lashing out at Hibernian’s Marc McNulty last weekend.

So, back up goalkeeper Wes Foderingham will make just his seventh appearance of the season.

In defence, right-back James Tavernier has scored a staggering 16 goals this season although 14 of them have been penalties.

Settled pairing Nikola Katić and Connor Goldson will be the centre-backs.

Jon Flanagan is expected to get the nod over Borna Barišić at left-back.

In midfield, Glenn Kamara has been outstanding since joining from Dundee for a compensation fee of £50,000 in January.

He’s made himself undroppable.

Ryan Jack, who scored the winner when these two last met at Ibrox, will partner him.

Ross McCrorie, who was forced to fill in in goal last weekend, won’t be in goal or in midfield from the start here, as he’s likely to be a substitute.

Scott Arfield and Lassana Coulibaly are also likely to be on the bench.

PFA Scotland’s young player of the year Ryan Kent, who was sent off at Celtic Park, will be on one wing with Daniel Candeias on the other.

Steven Davis, who’s faced Celtic 21 times in his career winning 9, is expected to retain the attacking midfield role.

Up front is where Gerrard will have a big call to make.

Alfredo Morelos has scored 29 goals this season but was sent off at Celtic Park in March, his fifth red card of the season.

In his absence, Jermain Defoe has been leading the line and he’s now scored 8 goals for Rangers in just 15 appearances.

Morelos has proven he cannot be trusted in big games so Defoe is likely to start.

Can this XI repeat December’s win?

As for Celtic, Neil Lennon will be sweating over the fitness of some of his key players.

Goalkeeper Scott Bain’s numbers this season are staggering.

He’s made 28 appearance, kept 22 clean sheets and let in just 7 goals.

Remarkable.

In front of him, Mikael Lustig will start at right back.

This could be his 16th and final Old Firm.

Lennon’s preferred centre-back pairing appears to be Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Šimunović with Filip Benković left out.

Dedryck Boyata is out with a knee injury and has probably played his last game for Celtic.

At left-back, Kieran Tierney managed 56 minutes last weekend and should be fit despite a reoccurring groin problem.

In midfield, Scott Brown will be looking to improve upon his 58% win rate in the Old Firm.

Callum McGregor will partner the captain.

Ahead of them will be James Forrest and Tom Rogic leaving one spot up for grabs.

Anyone of Scott Sinclair, Jonny Hayes, Oli Burke or Timo Weah could get the nod but it’s most likely to be the hard working Hayes.

Ryan Christie is still out with a facial fracture and is racing to be fit for the Scottish Cup Final.

Odsonne Édouard will lead the line looking to add to his 21 goals this season.

Leigh Griffiths is available; he hasn’t played since 8 December due to personal reasons.

Will the champions leave Ibrox victorious?
