Brighton vs Southampton
Southampton haven’t had the best start to the 2019/20 season.
The Saints headed into game-week three down in 19th spot in the Premier League table, and had yet to register a single point in the league.
Southampton lost 3-0 on the opening weekend vs Burnley, before losing 2-1 vs Liverpool last weekend.
This Saturday saw them travel to Brighton in one of four 3 pm PL kick offs.
Brighton have had a decent start to the new season under Graham Potter.
They beat Watford 3-0, and then drew 1-1 vs West Ham last weekend.
Why Ryan Bertrand missed out
Ahead of the clash with Brighton, Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl provided a brief update on his team selection.
One of the things discussed was the absence of Ryan Bertrand from the matchday squad.
Bertrand is a first-team regular normally for Southampton, and has started their previous two outings in 2019/20.
But Hasenhuttl would explain that Bertrand missed out due to having a problem with his ankle on Friday:
“I think it was yesterday after the session that he had a little problem with his ankle.”
Hasenhuttl also explained why he chose to start Danny Ings, citing his impact vs Liverpool as a factor:
“Ings had a very good impact in the last game. I think he came on and was a very good sub last week and showed immediately that he was in the game. I think he was fit and I hope he can make a very good game today.”
