Southampton vs Arsenal
Southampton take on Arsenal this Sunday as Ralph Hasenhuttl goes in search of his first win as Saints boss.
Hasenhuttl took charge of Southampton’s last game vs Cardiff on Saturday. However, Southampton would lose 1-0.
As a result, Southampton are now 19th in the Premier League and have won just one league game this season.
But with Arsenal their next fixture, it is unlikely Hasenhuttl will earn his first three Premier League points this Sunday.
Arsenal are currently 5th in the Premier League and only behind 4th place Chelsea on goal difference.
The Gunners last game saw them beat Huddersfield 1-0.
This extended their unbeaten run to 21 games across all competitions, the longest unbeaten run currently in Europe’s top five leagues.
Southampton injury update
However, the Saints do have a bit of a boost heading into what will be a very tough game.
Southampton’s main right-back Cedric Soares would miss their 1-0 defeat to Cardiff with a slight calf strain.
However, he is likely to return this weekend vs Arsenal.
Southampton may also be able to welcome back star forward, Danny Ings.
Ings has missed Southampton’s last four league games through injury, which was a huge blow considering he is their top scorer.
Ings has scored four of the Saints 13 league goals this season and having him back in contention would be fantastic.
Southampton are also hopeful of having Ryan Bertrand back fit for the crunch clash with Arsenal.
Cedric Soares is targeting return in GW17 after missing the defeat at Cardiff with a “slight” calf strain. New boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is also hoping Ryan Bertrand [back] and Danny Ings [hamstring] can overcome their respective injuries to be in contention. #SaintsFC
