Ralph Hasenhuttl believed to be among candidates being considered by Chelsea as Lampard successor

An update on the latest possible successor to Frank Lampard at Chelsea has emerged online this weekend.

Ralph Hasenhuttl believed to be among candidates being considered by Chelsea as Lampard successor

Chelsea’s recent struggles

Chelsea, despite early season promise, have endured a nightmare stretch in the Premier League of late.

The Blues’ latest Premier League outing saw them put to the sword in concerning fashion by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

This result means that the Londoners have now picked up just one win from their last six league outings, four of which ended in defeat.

Their loss to City also saw Chelsea slip down to 9th place in the Premier League table, seven points adrift of 2nd placed Manchester United, who also boast a game in hand.

Hasenhuttl latest name linked with Chelsea job

Such disastrous form, when taking into account the amount of money spent by the club’s board during the summer, has inevitably seen pressure begin to mount on the shoulders of inexperienced Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.

It was even suggested by reliable outlet, The Athletic, following defeat to City that the higher-ups at Stamford Bridge have already begun looking at alternatives to Lampard.

Thomas Tuchel, who was recently let go by French powerhouse PSG, was named as one possible replacement – as was Ukrainian national boss and former Chelsea striker, Andriy Shevchenko.

And now, this weekend, yet another tactician has been tipped to replace Lampard on the bench in southwest London.

The individual in question, according to the Daily Mail, is Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Southampton have of course enjoyed a fine start to the season under the Austrian tactician, which sees them sitting 6th in the Premier League table, above Chelsea.

The Mail add that Hasenhuttl will not leave St Mary’s mid-season, but could represent an option in the summer should the Blues’ results not improve under Lampard.
