Ralf Rangnick confirms Manchester United defender set to miss West Ham game

Manchester United and West Ham are set to face off on Saturday afternoon at 3 pm UK time.

Ahead of the game, Ralf Rangnick would speak to the press on Friday.

When doing so, the German confirmed that Victor Lindelof, who had his house broken into recently, will not be available versus West Ham: “I spoke with him at length on our flight back home from London and also this morning. We spoke for 20 or 25 minutes, he told me what actually happened, that this was a traumatic event, especially for his wife and three-year-old son.

“He said to me right now he needs to stay at home, he doesn’t want to leave his wife and family on their own, which I can fully understand, being a father of two children myself. We agreed he will not be on duty tomorrow for the game.”

Jadon Sancho latest

Sticking with team news, Rangnick is also unsure if Jadon Sancho, who missed United’s last fixture due to a funeral, will be available on Saturday: “He didn’t train yesterday because he still asked us to not train. He attended a funeral on Wednesday, it still affected him quite a lot, he is expected back to training this afternoon at three o’clock, but right now I’m not sure if he will be available for the game tomorrow.

“It was an important member of the family, somebody he was close to all his life. I have to wait and see, speak to him before training and after training and take the decision.”

Manchester United vs West Ham

Manchester United head into the West Ham game having still just lost one game under Ralf Rangnick.

Their latest outing saw the Red Devils secure a 3-1 win over Brentford on Wednesday.

Yet again, though, Manchester United looked well below their best for much of the game, prompting some fairly angry words from Thomas Frank post-match:

West Ham, though, are expected to provide a much tougher test than the Bees.

David Moyes’ side are currently 4th in the Premier League and are a fairly high-scoring side – something that does not bode well for a Manchester United team who struggle to keep clean sheets, even in the midst of some heroic displays from David de Gea.
