Rafa Benitez to review Newcastle position in January

Rafa’s Newcastle miracle

Rafa Benitez received little backing in the transfer market over the summer from Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.

This is despite Benitez somehow guiding Newcastle to a 10th place finish last season.

On paper, Newcastle’s squad is simply not good enough to finish in the top 10 of the Premier League.

However, thanks in a large part, to Benitez’s managerial expertise, Newcastle did finish 10th.

So, as all managers probably would, Benitez was keen to improve upon that finish this season.

‘We have to go to January and see what we do’

But after making very few signings over the summer, Benitez now appears to be reassessing his goals and his position at Newcastle.

Speaking ahead of Newcastle’s clash with Crystal Palace Benitez stated:

“We have to go to January and see what we do.

“After that it will be easier to know where we are.

“When I first decided to stay my view was very clear: to compete in the top 10. That is not the case now. So we have to review things

“It’s obvious for everyone that we have to do things in another way.

“I’m really pleased here. I like the city, I like the atmosphere and the fans and everything. The potential of the club is massive.”

Newcastle go into their game with Crystal Palace without a 2018/19 league win.

The Magpies have so far, drew one game with Cardiff City 0-0.

Their other four league games vs Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have seen Newcastle lose 2-1.

However, those four games were very tough. So, Newcastle will be hoping to finally pick up a win this weekend vs Crystal Palace.
