Rafa Benitez to quit Newcastle over transfers
According to the Telegraph, Rafa Benitez will leave Newcastle if no January signings are made.
Benitez reportedly gave Newcastle a list of targets he would like them to sign in December of 2018.
Now, unless Benitez is given two signings, he is said to be willing to leave the North East club in the summer.
Benitez was asked about January signings earlier this month but he refused to discuss them:
“I think it is better, if I do not talk too much about that, no one will be analysing what I said, and whether it is positive or negative.” As quoted by the Newcastle Chronicle.
Benitez’s contract is due to expire at the end of the 2018/19 season.
Newcastle’s relegation battle
After Benitez guided Newcastle to promotion in the 2016/17 season, the Magpies then finished in an impressive 10th place last season.
With some decent investment and Benitez’s managerial skills, there was no reason why Newcastle could not have improved on their league finish this year.
However, after failing to sign enough top players in the summer, Newcastle have struggled this campaign.
After 23 league games this season, Newcastle are 17th in the Premier League. They are also just two points above the relegation zone.
Benitez’s side did pick up a win in their last game at home to Cardiff, although their recent form has not been great.
Newcastle’s next game sees them take on Watford in the 4th round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
