Rafa Benitez provides Newcastle injury update before Man United

Newcastle’s first game of 2019 is against an inform Manchester United.

Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over at United they have looked a completely different side.

Man United head into Wednesday’s game sixth in the league having won all three of their games under Solskjaer vs Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bournemouth.

Newcastle must also be wary of Paul Pogba who has scored four and assisted two in three games under Solskjaer.

Newcastle, on the other hand, currently sit just three points above the relegation zone in 15th place.

They are also without a win in their last three league games. A win for Newcastle could see them move up to 14th place.

Newcastle injury update

Ahead of the game with Man United, Rafa Benitez has provided an injury update on several Newcastle players.

Federico Fernandez is struggling with a hip injury and may miss out with Benitez having this to say about the injury:

“I was talking to him on Friday and he said he was feeling better, but still he was feeling a little bit his ankle.”

Fabian Schar is likely going to come in to replace Fernandez in Newcastle’s backline while Ciaran Clark will undergo a late fitness test.

Florian Lejeune is once again expected to miss out.
