Rafa Benitez provides Everton team news update ahead of Wolves

Wolves vs Everton

Week 10 of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign will finish on Monday the 1st of November.

The final tie of the gameweek will see Everton face off with Wolves at Molineux Stadium.

Wolves, after a ropy start to the season under new boss Bruno Lage, are now unbeaten in their last four league outings – picking up three wins and one draw.

Everton, on the other hand, are in the midst of something of a mini-crisis.

Rafael Benitez’s side have won just one of their last five league matches, drawing one and losing the remaining three.

Their most concerning result, meanwhile, came last weekend, when, despite leading 2-1 in the 63rd minute, the Toffees somehow lost to a struggling Watford side by a staggering five goals to two.

Rafa Benitez on Doucoure & Richarlison

Though not all of the blame can be attributed to it, Everton’s dip in form is likely to have something to do with the injury issues that they have faced of late.

Richarlison has returned to the squad, and came off the bench vs Watford, but both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure missed out through injury.

As a result, Everton’s fans were likely hoping for some positive news from Rafa Benitez in his pre-Wolves press conference on Friday.

First, though, Benitez confirmed that Richarlison is still not 100 per cent fit:

“He’s been getting better, we will see how much he can improve. In terms of his fitness he will not be 100% but he’s getting better.”

The Everton boss also provided an update on Doucoure, revealing that he is hopeful the midfielder will be available once again after the international break:

“The reality is that we are missing some important players. Doucoure was doing really well, to lose him for these games is important for any team. Doucoure is getting better, it seems he’s progressing well, hopefully after [the international break] he’ll be fine.”
