Newcastle vs Cardiff
Newcastle host Cardiff on Saturday in something of a ‘six-pointer’.
The Magpies head into the weekend 18th in the table after losing 2-1 vs Chelsea last gameweek.
Newcastle are also without a win in their last five Premier League outings and are in serious danger of being relegated.
Cardiff, like Newcastle, have been in and around the relegation zone all season.
However, Cardiff are currently 17th, one point above the drop zone.
So, a win for Newcastle on Saturday is vital unless they want to find themselves four points away from safety.
Newcastle injury update
Ahead of the Cardiff game, Rafa Benitez has provided an injury update on three players.
Newcastle took on Blackburn on Tuesday evening in a FA Cup 3rd round replay.
Benitez’s side would eventually come away with a 4-2 win though they sustained several casualties while doing so.
Ciaran Clark suffered a knee injury vs Blackburn but Benitez is hopeful he can recover in time for Saturday:
“I don’t think [Clark] is very serious. It was a kick to his knee. But we will see in a couple of days.”
Jamaal Lascelles also suffered an injury on Tuesday but as it was to his hamstring, Benitez is not very confident of having him fit for Cardiff:
“It’s a hamstring and you never know.”
There is one small bit of good news for Newcastle before Cardiff as Kenedy is likely to be involved after returning from a toe injury:
“I think in 1/2 days he will be OK.”
Benitez update on injured trio. “I don’t think [Clark] is very serious. It was a kick to his knee. But we will see in a couple of days.” Lascelles is a bigger concern. “It’s a hamstring and you never know.” Kenedy (toe) could return. “I think in 1/2 days he will be OK.” #NUFC
