PSG’s Ander Herrera believes he deserved more attention from Man United

PSG star Ander Herrera has recently provided an insight into why he decided against signing a new contract with Manchester United.

Herrera’s Man United stint

Herrera made the move to Manchester United in the summer of 2014 from Spanish outfit Athletic Bilbao.

The Red Devils are understood to have paid around £32m for the Spaniard’s services.

And whilst Herrera was never really a headline grabber at United, he certainly stood as a reliable figure to call upon in the centre of midfield.

In total, the Spaniard notched 189 appearances across all competitions for Man United, scoring 20 and assisting 27 in the process.

Herrera opens up on contract situation at Man United

Last season, Herrera remained a key figure for United, when he garnered 28 appearances under a combination of Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

So, given the fact that Herrera was seemingly an important asset at Old Trafford, and not yet in the twilight years of his career, it was somewhat surprising when the two-time capped international departed United for free last summer.

Herrera has previously cited issues with his importance in the United project as key to his decision not to pen a new deal with the Premier League powerhouse.

And now, as mentioned above, the box-to-box midfielder has moved to shed further light on the situation.

Herrera claims that his decision not to sign a new deal with United was not financially motivated, but rather about the duration of the contract on offer, and how long he had to wait for it to arrive.

Bilbao-born Herrera also went on to claim that he believes he ‘deserved more attention’ from the Red Devils:

“It was not about money.

“It was not about the duration of the contract offer.

“In my opinion, I waited too long (for an offer) and deserved more attention from the club. I was a player that gave everything. I never complained. I never went to the media to complain about anything.

“I never put a bad face to any manager, to any member of the board, and they waited until I had five or six months left on my contract.

“That’s why I had some disagreements with them. I tell you this but I also tell you that it is part of football, part of life, nothing personal at all – but you ask the question and I give my point of view, as a professional player.”
