Eric Abidal convinces Rabiot to join Barca
Adrien Rabiot’s contract with Ligue 1 giants PSG runs out in July of 2019.
The Frenchman does not look likely to sign a new deal and as a result, a host of top European clubs have shown an interest in him.
Back in the summer transfer window both Tottenham and Manchester City were linked with moves for the Frenchman.
However, the 23-year-old would remain a PSG player.
Now, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have beaten both Spurs and Man City to the signing of Rabiot.
After speaking with Barcelona’s technical secretary, Eric Abidal, the PSG midfielder has agreed, in principle, to join Barcelona on a free on July 1st 2019 once his contract with PSG has run out.
However, the agreement between Barca and Rabiot is not set in stone.
The main reason for this is clubs cannot legally agree to sign a player for free until he has just six months remaining on his current deal, meaning it cannot be official until January 1st 2019.
Rabiot’s time at PSG
If Rabiot does officially agree to join Barca he would be a huge loss to PSG.
The young centre mid has bags of potential and has been a key member of PSG’s squad this season.
