Brighton & Hove Albion have this evening confirmed the impressive signing of Tariq Lamptey from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
19-year-old Lamptey is a product of Chelsea’s youth system.
The teenage stopper joined the Pensioners as a youngster back in 2006, and had since gone on to develop into one of the most highly-regarded talents on the club’s books.
Lamptey generally lines out at right-back, but his technical abilities have also seen the starlet utilised on the wing in the past.
Chelsea’s fans, meanwhile, were given the first glimpse of the unquestionable talents possessed by their latest upcoming star when the Blues faced off with Arsenal late last month.
After being introduced off the bench for the final half-hour of the London derby, in what was his Premier League bow, Lamptey hardly put a foot wrong, looking at ease up against some of the finest talent the English top-flight has to offer.
As such, all associated with Chelsea had long been hopeful of the 19-year-old finally putting pen-to-paper on a new contract at Stamford Bridge, with his latest deal having been set to expire in the summer.
As outlined above, though, this has not proven the case.
Lamptey has in fact opted to test his abilities elsewhere, with the English U20 international having secured a permanent move to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Both the Seagulls and Chelsea confirmed the news across social media a short time ago:

Speaking on the back of his Brighton switch being made official, meanwhile, Lamptey opened up on his decision to depart Stamford Bridge:
‘It was a really tough decision to leave as I’ve been at Chelsea since the age of 7 and seen it all the way to the U23s, and then the first team. It was a proud moment when I made my Premier League debut, but I felt that it was the right time to start a new chapter.’
