Premier League fans call for VAR after Javier Hernandez scores with hand

Another controversial moment

Premier League football fans are calling for VAR to be implemented in England’s top flight after Javier Hernandez scored a goal with his hand against Fulham.

The Video Assistant Referee system has been a much talked about subject for what feels like an eternity now.

It was a humongous talking point during the World Cup when football fans got to see it within top-level football for the first time.

After what was seen as a successful test, VAR started to be implemented across football.

VAR is now used in the Champions League and was actually a huge talking point this week for all the wrong reasons.

Manchester City conceded what was arguably a harsh penalty, despite the incident being reviewed by VAR.

That caused a lot of people to speak about how the technology is not quite ready yet.

Though, Premier League fans are actually bemoaning the lack of VAR in England tonight.

More like ‘Cheatchirito’…

That is because West Ham’s Javier Hernadez scored a goal that simply should not have stood.

The Mexican forward looked initially to have nodded into the back of the net from two yards out.

However, on further inspection, the ball actually misses his head and Chicharito uses his hand to push it into the back of the net.

The referee’s position makes it difficult for him to see it, while it’s probably too far and difficult for the linesman to spot.

Though, if VAR was in the Premier League, it would have picked up on the incident and the goal would not have been allowed to stand.

Social media reacts

That was the opinion that several Premier League fans took to social media to explain.

Despite the troubles VAR has been through in some of its tests, many believe it is needed in England’s top flight and soon.
