Premier League duo Newcastle United and Southampton are both eyeing the signing of Fernando Torres.
The 33-year-old striker is hoping to return to England after struggling for game time at Atletico Madrid this season.
Torres endured a torrid time in England’s top tier at Chelsea following his gigantic £50m move from Liverpool.
The Spaniard is hopeful of returning to England as struggles for game time in La Liga.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea forward has made just one start for Madrid so far this season.
Torres’ chances of playing are set to reduce further with Diego Costa becoming eligible to play for the club in January.
Costa agreed to join Atletico in the summer but has been ineligible to play due to the Madrid’s transfer ban.
The player’s representatives have informed the club of his desire to the leave the Spanish capital on loan in January.
They have also informed Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Southampton aware of his desires to leave.
Torres is hoping that either club offers Atletico a deal which will convince them to offload him for the rest of the season.
Despite requesting to leave for the remainder of the season, Torres is hoping to spend next season with his boyhood club.
He has 18 months left on his contract and his plan is to retire at the end of his current deal.
Premier League interest
Newcastle United and Southampton, both with Spanish-speaking managers, have shown an interest in signing the player in the past.
Rafa Benitez and Mauricio Pellegrino are open to the prospect of welcoming Torres to England.
The player himself is also confident in his ability to perform in the Premier League.
With this being potentially the penultimate season of his career, Torres is hoping for as much game time as possible.
