Positive signs from Alvaro Morata before Roma

Alvaro Morata at Chelsea training

After two defeats on the bounce to Man City and Crystal Palace, Chelsea will be looking to rebound with a win this week in the Champions League.

Chelsea have two wins on the board already in he UCL.

Roma are the visitors to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

It was a bad weekend for Roma in Serie A as they lost 1-0 at home to Lazio.

On Sunday, Alvaro Morata, who missed last weekend’s Palace debacle, returned to training.

The Spanish international striker was sorely missing at Selhurst Park, and Antonio Conte will surely be keen to have his forward available against Roma.

That’s looking likely, as Morata was back in training on Tuesday too.

With reporters filming on the sidelines, Chelsea’s number one striker offered little reason to suggest he won’t play this week.

Roma have an injury crisis

As for Roma, they have problems.

Stephan El Shaarawy, Patrik Schick, Kevin Strootman, Gregoire Defrel and Emerson Palmieri all missed Roma’s defeat to Napoli with injuries.

Strootman and El Shaarawy are the only two out of that list who could make the squad for the Chelsea game.

Moreover, Roma lost players against Napoli.

Defender Kostas Manolas was forced out the game with a thigh injury. Roma coach Eusebio Di Francesco has since said it’s “practically impossible” for Manolas to play against Chelsea.

There are also doubts over Lorenzo Pellegrini. The Roma midfielder was also taken off against Napoli have been hampered with a muscular problem during the international break.
