Pogba & De Gea using Champions League uncertainty to demand pay rise

The race for the top four

While Liverpool and Manchester City will no doubt be finishing in the top two this season, the race for the final two Champions League spots remains wide open.

Currently, Tottenham and Arsenal occupy 3rd and 4th place.

However, 5th place Chelsea are only behind Arsenal on goal difference and just one point behind Spurs.

Although, Chelsea have also played one more game than both Arsenal and Tottenham.

6th place Manchester United are also still in with an outside shot of finishing in the top four.

United have 64 points from 33 games, putting them three points behind 3rd place.

Pogba & De Gea’s contract talks

However, while United may well finish in a UCL spot, the uncertainty over that could well cost the Red Devils.

The reason for this is because should United finish outside the top four, the entire team will take a 25% pay cut

This, according to the Times, has lead to both Paul Pogba and David De Gea demanding huge pay rises to combat their £290,000 and £200,000 deals being cut.

Pogba may also use his rumoured Real Madrid interest to get a pay rise this summer.
