Plans in place for Italy & Argentina to face off in Napoli to commemorate life of Diego Maradona

Italy & Argentina come out on top

The major international tournaments of the summer drew to a close last weekend.

Both the Euro 2020 final and Copa America final were held on July 11th.

The European Championships saw Italy and England face off in a clash at Wembley.

Italy came out on top in that tie after the Azzurri were able to beat the Three Lions on penalties.

Argentina, meanwhile, picked up their first Copa America title since all the way back in 1993.

They beat hosts Brazil 1-0 in the competition’s showpiece thanks to a 22nd-minute strike from Angel Di Maria.

It would be Lionel Messi who was the star of the tournament, though, with the Barcelona man picking up the most goals, most assists and Player of the Tournament prizes.

Argentina to face Italy in Napoli

Now, after Italy and Argentina have won their respective continents trophies, the pair look set to go head-to-head in a one-off clash.

It has been reported that plans are at an advanced stage for a one-off game between the new European and South American champions in Napoli to commemorate the life of Diego Maradona.

Maradona died in November of 2020 after he suffered a heart attack at his Buenos Aires home.

During his playing days, however, Maradona led Argentina to World Cup glory, whilst also winning two Serie A titles with Napoli.
