Pires: Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish could replace David Silva at Man City

Man City vs Aston Villa

Manchester City and Aston Villa are set to go head-to-head on Sunday for the first piece of available English silverware this term.

Man City are the current holders of the League Cup, and have, in fact, won the competition in three of the last four years.

As for Aston Villa, they have clinched the trophy five times throughout their history, but the Lions haven’t done so since 1996.

And whilst Dean Smith’s side will no doubt be keen to add a sixth LC trophy to Villa’s collection, you would imagine that this will be a fairly routine win for a vastly superior Man City side.

Grealish to replace Silva?

Ahead of the 2020 League Cup final, Arsenal legend Robert Pires has been speaking about Villa standout Jack Grealish.

Grealish has been a rare bright spark for Villa this term, as they look to stave off relegation.

And when speaking about Grealish, Pires compared him to one of his former teammates, Dennis Bergkamp:

“I like to see him playing in the same position as Dennis, as a No 10.

“He has great vision, he isn’t a selfish player because he always wants to do what is best for the team, and I think he has a great future.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on Jack, because he is still a young player learning the game, and Dennis was an incredible talent and a champion.

“But Grealish is a very complete player and I think the key for him is to keep playing like he enjoys his football.”

Pires also suggested that Grealish could be a player whom Pep Guardiola looks at to replace a departing David Silva:

“City need to find a replacement for Silva next season – and I think Grealish is someone who Pep will look at.

“He is English, he has good experience of the Premier League, and he has a great technique.”

Man City have previously been linked with a move for the Aston Villa midfielder, but it is City’s neighbours Manchester United who have been most heavily linked with Grealish recently.
