Ousmane Dembele

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang & Ian Wright joke about Arsenal signing Ousmane Dembele after goal vs Tottenham

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gunners’ legend Ian Wright were tonight involved in an interesting exchange regarding Ousmane Dembele on Twitter.

Barcelona 1-1 Tottenham

Barcelona welcomed Tottenham to the Camp Nou this evening, as part of the final round of Champions League Group stage fixtures.

The Blaugrana had already secured top spot in the Group B table ahead of kick-off, though. Spurs, on the other hand, were aware that they had to equal or better Inter Milan’s result versus PSV Eindhoven to ensure their qualification to the competition’s Last-16.

And, in the end, this is precisely what Mauricio Pochettino’s men did.

Lucas Moura’s late equalizer from Harry Kane’s cross saw Tottenham snatch a 1-1 draw in Catalunya, equalling the scoreline managed by Inter at the San Siro.

Dembele magic

However, while it was Moura’s strike that proved crucial on one side of the North London divide tonight, it was Ousmane Dembele’s stunning opener at the Camp Nou that had Arsenal strikers past and present taking notice.

After netting in impressive fashion versus Espanyol at the weekend, French wide-man Dembele notched his second in two outings tonight.

The 21-year-old nicked the ball from Spurs’ stopper Kyle Walker-Peters inside his own half with 7 minutes on the clock, before embarking on a breathtaking run, and eventually slotting home in clinical fashion past the helpless Hugo Lloris:

‘How much?’

And Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a former Borussia Dortmund teammate of Dembele’s, quickly took to Twitter to showcase his appreciation for the Frenchman’s piece of individual brilliance:

However, it was the reaction of another striker long-associated with Arsenal which has since garnered plenty of attention online.

The hitman in question is former Gunners’ star Ian Wright, with the 55-year-old having responded to Aubameyang’s post by questioning how much Dembele might set any interested parties (Arsenal, for example) back:

Aubameyang, in turn, replied to Wright’s comment with a number of laughing emojis:

Arsenal have actually been heavily-linked with a move for Dembele over recent months, though Barcelona have continually moved to shut down such rumours by adamantly insisting that their prodigious attacker is not for sale under any circumstances.
