Barcelona set a deadline for Liverpool to respond to their bid for Philippe Coutinho at the weekend. The Reds laughed at the very notion of this deadline and let it pass without a second thought. That’s that, right? Not quite.
Globo Esporte claims that was simply Liverpool calling Barca’s bluff. The Catalan giants will indeed return with an improved bid for they place the signing of Coutinho high in their priorities.
It’s not clear how much higher Barca are willing to go above their previous €125m offer. Perhaps they’ll return with a bid of the same amount but in a more attractive package. The last one was the subject of mockery online.
Coutinho remains keen on the move. Liverpool have a lot of options in attack. It’s in midfield and defence that they’re short of quality. But would they be willing to sell this late in the window? Would it be wise?
