Ryan Mason has called time on his football career, following his head injury last year, and it seems that the outpouring of support for the player isn’t set to end any time soon.
Mason had worked hard to get back to fitness and playing on the field again, but it turned out to be too unsafe, and the player naturally put his health before football and announced he would be hanging up his boots.
Many players offered their public support, and one man Mason has got to know well since the clash with Gary Cahill is Petr Cech, who offered his support and visited Mason after the head injury – and is still in contact with the player to this day.
The Arsenal goalkeeper took to Twitter with a classy message for Mason, and made it clear just how brave the player has been and called him an inspiration for others to boot.
Yesterday was a sad day for one incredible young man .@RyanMason . Although his story didn’t finish with ultimate happy ending , his determination , attitude and bravery he’s shown during his recovery is something to be admired and an inspiration for others ! Cech of course suffered his own horror head injury, against Reading when Stephen Hunt collided with him, and he of course knows all about having to come back from the brink.
Now at Arsenal after a very successful period with Chelsea, the goalkeeper is being questioned more than ever before, and knows he has a point to prove to the media and some sections of the fans.
Not only is Cech known for being one of the best goalkeepers the Premier League has seen, he’s also known for being one of the nicest and kindest players, with many stories on how he’s helped players settle in and gone out of his way for those who are injured.
