Pep Guardiola’s agent confirms Spaniard set to stay at Manchester City

Man City stumble in Europe again

An all too familiar story played out for Manchester City over the weekend.

The Citizens managed to see off Champions League specialists Real Madrid over two last-16 meetings, eventually emerging with a 4-2 aggregate victory.

This, in turn, saw Man City drawn against Lyon in the competition’s quarter-finals, a tie which, on paper at least, appeared the most straightforward when considering the other remaining sides in the Champions League.

Lyon finished 7th in Ligue 1 league this season, and their recent form had proven nothing to write home about, with Rudi Garcia’s men having only scraped past Juventus in the round-of-16 thanks to away goals.

However, Lyon still managed to put three past the Sky Blues, courtesy of a combination of questionable Pep Guardiola tactics and sub-par City defending.

The Citizens have now crashed out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage three years in a row, following defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham in 2017/18 and 2018/19 respectively.

Pep Guardiola

Guardiola’s Manchester City future

City’s latest defeat, obviously, means that Pep Guardiola, a man regarded by many as the greatest manager of the last decade, is yet to even guide Man City to a Champions League semi-final.

Guardiola’s latest European failure, meanwhile, coincides with the struggles of the Spaniard’s former club, Barcelona, who look set to show Quique Setien the exit door imminently.

And, as per Goal, It has been suggested that a SOS call could be put out to Guardiola by Barca.

However, if recent comments on the part of the Man City boss’ agent are anything to go by, then he will not be returning to Barcelona anytime soon.

Josep Maria Orobitg is understood to have explained to Goal:

“Yes, Pep will stay at City 100 per cent.”

It is added that whilst Guardiola has just one year left on his current deal at the Etihad, fresh terms are in the pipeline.
