Pep Guardiola provides Man City squad update ahead of Chelsea

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has this afternoon provided updates on a number of his side’s players, ahead of the Citizens’ showdown with Chelsea.

Man City vs Chelsea

City and Chelsea are set to compete for the first major silverware of the English season at Wembley on Sunday evening, in the final of the League Cup.

The two sides, though, head into proceedings on markedly differing recent runs of form.

Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions are currently in the midst of an absolutely scintillating stretch. The Sky Blues have racked up 13 wins from their last 14 outings across all competitions, the latest of which saw City recover from a goal-down and a man-down at Schalke on Wednesday evening to eventually emerge with a 3-2 victory.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have won 3 and lost 3 of their last 6 fixtures.

2 of these victories, though, came over Swedish outfit Malmo in the Europa League, whereas the Blues’ defeats included 4-0 and 6-0 drubbings at the hands of Bournemouth and their opponents this weekend, Manchester City, respectively.

City’s injury concerns

As such, Chelsea are evidently set to head into Sunday’s clash as heavy underdogs.

The Blues, though, may yet be buoyed by facing off against a City side who will not be at full-strength at Wembley.

Speaking in a press conference this afternoon, Citizens’ boss Pep Guardiola confirmed that all of Benjamin Mendy, Gabriel Jesus and John Stones remain in doubt to feature in 2 days’ time:

Fabian Delph, though, is in contention to return to City’s squad:
