Pep Guardiola hints at Leroy Sane return vs Arsenal/De Bruyne latest

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has provided fitness updates on key trio Leroy Sane, Kevin De Bruyne and Aymeric Laporte, ahead of his side’s meeting with Arsenal.

City host Arsenal

The Sky Blues are set to welcome Mikel Arteta’s men to the Etihad tomorrow evening, for the Premier League’s lone midweek fixture.

City will head into proceedings in search of a bounce-back performance, on the back of a disappointing result over the weekend.

A Manchester derby meeting with United at Old Trafford on Sunday eventually saw a sub-par Citizens side put to the sword by 2 goals to nil.

City’s opponents tomorrow night, though, unlike Guardiola’s 2nd-placed outfit, actually have something to play for.

Arsenal, on the back of an upturn in form of late, are still in with an outside shot of securing Champions League football for next season.

As such, the Sky Blues are no doubt set to face a fully-motivated Gunners side in a little over 24 hours’ time.

Sane/De Bruyne latest

And, as outlined above, ahead of what could prove a tricky test for City, Pep Guardiola has this evening provided a fitness update on his squad.

The main focus surrounded Leroy Sane, who has long been closing on a return to first-team action.

German wide-man Sane has not made a single appearance for City since tearing his ACL in a Community Shield meeting with Liverpool last August.

However, when questioned on the 24-year-old’s potential involvement tomorrow night, Guardiola hinted that Sane could feature:

‘He’s training. He’s not injured.’

‘We are going to decide but he was ready weeks ago. He’s getting better every week.’

‘I have many thoughts [on whether he will play]. All good thoughts.’

Guardiola then went on to provide updates on sidelined pair Kevin De Bruyne and Aymeric Laporte, both of whom missed the Citizens’ derby defeat over the weekend:

‘Let me think. Laporte, Kevin have both been training last two days.’

‘I don’t know if they will be able to play tomorrow. We’ll have another session tomorrow and the rest will be okay.’
